Why is Kevin Chan, a Wing
Chun master competing in a Jiu-Jitsu event? In Master Chan's
words: "Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) has dominated no
holds barred events like The Ultimate Fighting Champions extreme fighting
and Vale Tudo (no rules). I wanted to understand how they have achieved
this, so I trained with Anaconda UK, Russian Sombo and the Gracie Academy
in the US to further my research and development of the martial arts. I
adapted my understanding of using leverage, restricting an opponents
movement and using tactile feel to this art."
Kevin Chan is now the official European Champion
for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for his category for this event, and he looks
forward to defending his title as long as it doesn't interfere with his
duties as Chief Instructor of Kamon Wing Chun.
